A Letter to Charter School Leaders of Color

Greetings Charter School Leaders of Color,

The annual academic testing period can bring about challenges and stress for school communities. FCCS want you to know we stand with you and support you during the coming weeks.

Many in the community reach out to show teachers support. Staff rally for students. Schools have themed weeks with fun dress-up days and bring snacks to provide positive incentives as students sit down to showcase their brilliance. But, what about you, our school leaders and founders? Do you feel supported?

At FCCS, we recognize all you do year-round to ensure the success of our Black and brown students. We are not blind to the challenges you face as charter school leaders of color and we applaud your hard work.

Ultimately there are many ways to measure the impact our schools are making for students – from academic growth to creating safe learning environments for our students that support their mental health needs. The work you do in your schools each day is contributing to the success of Black and brown students across the country.

FCCS, a non-profit led by people of color, works in cities across the country to ensure parents have access to choose the best school for their child. We believe all children should have the option to attend a great public school that meets their individual needs.

Part of our work is celebrating and amplifying the stories of how public charter schools are changing lives. As a charter school leader, we would love to feature your story. We encourage you to ,visit this link and share your school pride and legacy. If you have any questions, please reach out to me at ,[email protected].

In the meantime, here’s to a smooth testing period. Thank you for your dedication to our students and families.

In service,

Jay Artis- Wright
