It’s critical for elected leaders to visit charter schools and hear directly from the communities they represent on key policy and legislative issues. And FCCS wants to ensure Black and Brown charter school communities have a seat at the decision-making table. We jumped at the chance to help coordinate a campus visit between Georgia House Representative Karen Lupton and DeKalb’s Path Academy. Representative Lupton engaged with teachers, staff, and students, learning more about PATH Academy’s ability to be creative in the classroom and the barriers faced by charter schools in meeting students’ individual needs. This type of collaboration is essential for creating positive and lasting change that benefits our students and communities.
